Mickleton Young Gardeners invite
everyone to join them on their Allotment Open Days on
Saturday, 4th
September and Sunday, 5th September, between 2 and 6 pm.
The event is part of the
Royal Horticultural Society, Dig Together Day. The theme this year is ‘Growing
as a Community’. The Young Gardeners would love to show everyone
their allotments and talk about what they have grown over the year. There
will be refreshments, produce for sale and a photographic display of the
range of activities undertaken during the year. Seating will be available
undercover in the marquee.
If you are visiting by car, please follow the direction signs to the car
parking area.
The
‘potato in a pot’ competition, ‘How many and how heavy?’ was won
by William aged 4. (49 and 875g)
To the weekly tasks:
after a very dry start to the season when we were concerned that nothing
was actually going to gown, other than weeds, things are now well
underway.
Our
courgettes are very prolific, the round green and yellow organic variety
proving very popular, and the potatoes are beginning to produce a good
crop. The lettuce has grown well and the tomatoes are setting. Beans are
late but each family has been able to take home enough for a meal.
Each week our young
gardeners have been able to collect a variety of produce to take home.
The pumpkins are looking
good and should be ready for our Bonfire Party lanterns at the end of
October.
During August we have
been meeting each Wednesday morning but will return to Monday afternoon at
the beginning of September.
Visitors are always
welcome. |
