Mickleton is polishing up efforts to try and lift Bledisloe cup
MICKLETON has taken another giant step in its bid to maintain its success in the annual Bledisloe Cup. The organising committee has just launched a website, www.mickletoninbloom.co.uk, to keep villagers up to date with progress and help attract business sponsorship via links to the site. Fundraising began at the end of last year, with a Christmas quiz raising £100 along with donations from residents, now a banquet being held at Stratford College has sold out. Top of the priorities for the organisers is finding a stonemason to refurbish the historic village fountains built hundreds of years ago by the Graves family. The fountains will be appearing on the Coat of Arms the village is designing to help boost Mickleton's image. It will also feature bells as the church has an award-winning bellringing team. Other plans include providing visitor welcome and information boards in the town, opening an internet café, arranging computer courses and having a Union flag and flagpole in the village. With the help of a team of volunteers, including local schoolchildren, the committee is also going to add colour by planting more flower troughs throughout the village. "We really want to give the Bledisloe Cup and Calor Best Village competitions a good go this year," said committee chairman John Franklin." Our objectives are to work for the future of our village and make it more attractive and welcoming to residents and visitors and enhance its status. Our priority at the moment is to find a stonemason to carry out the refurbishment of the fountains, and we are also working on the coat of arms. Everyone is helping, including the WI, the church, and the school. It's a real joint effort." Cotswold Journal Thursday 15th February 2007 www.cotswoldjournal.co.uk
