Following
success in the Calor Village of the Year Competition in Gloucestershire,
Mickleton was nominated to represent the county in the Calor Village of
the Year England 2008 competition.
The
village was informed in late November 2007 and the Entry deadline was 15th
December 2007.
VOY
England Entry and Judging
Villages
entering English Calor Village of the Year® 2008 are placed in
one of five judging region.
West
England.
Herefordshire,
Worcestershire, Shropshire, Avonside, Cornwall, Devon, Gloucestershire,
Wiltshire, Somerset.
Entry
Conditions.
To
take part in the national English Calor Village of the Year®
competition villages must first take part in their county competition
and/or be nominated for the national Calor Village of the Year®
competition by that county.
The
judges are looking for:
"Well
balanced, pro-active, caring village communities which, irrespective of
size, have made the best of local opportunities to maintain and enhance
the quality of life for all inhabitants."
THE
ENTRY
Written
Entry:
Not
to exceed three pages (A4 single side) for each of the four Part A
categories 1
to 4 and no more than 500 words for Part B.
PLUS
THE FOLLOWING ITEMS:
Photographs:
Six photographs of your village for non commercial purposes
A
simple map/directions on
how to find your village and meeting place (two copies).
A
sketch map of points of interest within
the village (two copies). This will be particularly useful if you are
taking judges on a short tour.
A
list of newspapers that
circulate in your area, and regional TV and radio stations (media coverage
of your achievement is important, not only for you but also the success of
the competition.)

entry will be assessed and marked as follows:

“What makes your village special?”
20 marks
In
addition judges can give an overall individual assessment award up to a
maximum of 20 marks to each village. (These marks will reflect how each individual judge has
viewed the village and its effort. Effectively it is a mark for the
“buzz factor”, that special feeling or impression a village tries to
make on its visitors.)
This
makes for a maximum of 100 marks (written entry plus visit).
Regional
round judging will take place between Monday 14 April 2008 and Sunday 27
April 2008
During
this period, the panel of judges will visit selected villages. Only those
villages chosen for further judging will be contacted.
Final
round judging will take place between Saturday
5 July 2008 and Sunday 20 July 2008
No
results will be announced until the 2007/2008 Calor Village of the Year® Awards in Autumn 2008 when village
representatives will be invited to celebrate their community’s
achievements.
