Mickleton in Bloom

Working together for the future of our village

Our work in enhancing the village outlook project is progressing. As well as entering the Bledisloe Cup and Calor Best Village competitions this year we have made grant applications:

Ø     to purchase and design a village emblem/coat of arms to be erected in a prominent place in the village,

Ø     to repair the fountains and bring them back to near pristine condition, including cleaning the inscriptions,

Ø     to buy and erect a welcome notice board,

Ø     to purchase a Union Jack and fly it from the flagpole at the entrance to Alveston Grange,

Ø     to purchase computer equipment to set up a Internet Base and Learning Centre.

We are grateful to those of you who have already given promises of help and donations but we still require a few more promises of help and donations if we are to succeed. We are not asking people to do heavy gardening for us but general help in keeping the village tidy i.e. picking up litter and keeping grass verges tidy.

The competition judges will be in the village during June and July this year looking for litter free streets, clean and well kept public areas, tidy gardens etc., so we ask all residents to do their bit again during this time by keeping their front garden neat and tidy and if possible clear the litter and debris from the roads and pavements near their homes.

On Tuesday April 17th at 2.30 p.m. we held an open meeting in the village hall to discuss our progress and future ideas. Everyone, young and old, was invited to this meeting and we listened to ideas for the future enhancement of the village.

Tea or coffee and biscuits were served at the meeting which was attended by a good number of people who also offered their support.
